About this test
Brand we're currently stocking: SafeCare
This discreet at-home test kit uses a quick and pain-free method to determine your vaginal pH. With this knowledge, you’ll have an indication of whether you may be at risk of or experiencing bacterial vaginosis (BV) or thrush.
BV is the most common vaginal infection in women aged up to 44 years. It’s not a sexually-transmitted infection — it's caused by an imbalance of naturally-occurring bacteria in the vagina.
Thrush is a yeast infection in the vagina, caused by an overproduction of naturally-occurring fungi, leading to an imbalance of bacteria and yeast. A weakened immune system and pregnancy are among the common causes.
pH refers to how acidic or alkaline something is, measured on a scale of 0 to 14. With this test, you’ll find out whether your vaginal acidity is within the normal range.
If your result is abnormal, you may have BV or thrush, and you can get on track to treatment for a quick recovery.

How to use this test
Wait at least 15 minutes after urination to perform this test. Wash your hands with soap and rinse with warm water.
Open the foil packet and remove the test device. Ensure you only hold the applicator by the round handle area.
Your thumb should always be kept on the side opposite to the pH measurement area.
Sit with your knees spread, or with one foot on a firm surface (e.g. toilet seat).
Now, use your hand to gently spread the vaginal opening, carefully separating the outer labia.
Take extra care not to cross-contaminate the applicator with anything.
Gently insert the applicator into the vagina, in the same way as you would use a tampon. This should be around 1 inch deep, but no further than the round handle.
Gently press the inserted tube against the back wall of the vagina, applying light pressure for 10 seconds. This ensures the pH measurement zone becomes well moistened.
Now, you can remove the applicator.
Read your result immediately after removing the applicator, while the measurement zone is still damp.
Compare the colour in the pH measurement zone on the applicator with the colour scale. Note the value on the colour scale that’s most similar to the colour on your applicator.
Note: if the colour on your applicator isn’t uniform, you’ve not collected enough moisture. You can repeat steps 2 and 3 with the same applicator to collect more moisture, or use a new test.
