About this test

The liver is your body’s natural filtration system, processing toxins and producing essential proteins. As a central component of general well-being, monitoring your liver function is a proven way to support a healthy lifestyle.

Healthy liver function is vital for detoxing and re-energising your whole body. Owing to its resilience and regenerative abilities, many people don’t see the warning signs of poor liver health.

Designed to track two key liver markers — bilirubin and urobilinogen — this ultra-rapid home test provides immediate insights into your liver function and health. From cirrhosis to hepatitis and even types of anaemia, high levels of these two markers can point to a range of possible health issues.

In just a few steps, you’ll find out whether your levels are within the normal range. Using a simple colour comparison chart, you’ll get a reliable indication of your liver health in as little as 60 seconds! We’ve also included 8 other general health parameters to give you a broad picture of your wellbeing.

If your result shows elevated bilirubin or urobilinogen, you’ll be empowered to seek medical advice and get your liver back on track.

Make regular liver testing part of your well-being routine for peace of mind.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is this test recommended for?

Everyone benefits from keeping an eye on their liver health. This test is a strong option when you want a quick home check on two urine markers linked to liver function.

However, this test is particularly useful for those with chronic health conditions, heavy drinkers, and regular medication users.

As with any home test, you should always consult a medical professional after receiving your results. This test doesn’t substitute your GP’s advice.

Do I need to send my sample to a lab?

No, this test is designed for quick, at-home results, so you won’t need to send your sample to a lab.

After providing a urine sample, this kit provides results in minutes, giving you an indication of your liver health: no lab work required.

What exactly are bilirubin and urobilinogen?

Both compounds are produced by the liver and are part of your body’s waste processing system.

Bilirubin is produced when your liver breaks down old red blood cells. Normally, this would be removed via bile. If you have bilirubin in your urine, this suggests your liver isn’t processing it properly.

Urobilinogen is a byproduct created when bacteria in your intestines break down bilirubin. It’s normal to have some urobilinogen in your urine, but not excessive amounts. Too much indicates a potential issue with liver function.

These markers can shift when the liver is under strain or not processing waste products in the usual way.

Can this test tell me if I have fatty liver or NAFLD?

No, it cannot diagnose non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) on its own. For a formal diagnosis, you should consult your doctor.

What this test can do is give you an early sign that something may need closer attention, especially if bilirubin or urobilinogen fall outside the normal range. That makes it useful as a first home screen when you want to stop guessing and start checking.

If you are thinking about broader liver and kidney monitoring at the same time, the Liver and Kidney Vitality Bundle gives you wider coverage in one place.

Will my medication or drinking alcohol affect my result?

Potentially, yes. Antibiotics, diuretics, medications containing rifampin and some pain medications could alter your result.

If you’re taking regular medication, you can still do the test, but be mindful of this when you get your results. Always consult your GP if your results are abnormal.

Alcohol can put pressure on the liver over time, which is one reason people often want to keep an eye on liver-related markers.

This test will not diagnose alcohol-related liver disease, though it can give you a quick indication of whether two relevant urine markers look normal or raised.

Is this the same as a liver panel or an ALT / SLT test?

No. A liver panel usually refers to blood tests, and ALT is one of the markers people often mean when they talk about checking liver enzymes.

This test is different. It uses urine, and it focuses on bilirubin and urobilinogen instead.

That does not make it less useful. It makes it a simpler, faster screening step you can do at home when you want an initial answer without booking blood work straight away.

What are the symptoms of poor liver health?

People often come to this test when they have been dealing with persistent fatigue, abdominal discomfort, itchy or yellowing skin, swelling, leg or abdominal pain, or unexplained weight loss.

The useful thing here is speed. Liver problems can stay quiet for a long time, so a fast home check can feel a lot more practical than waiting for symptoms to become harder to ignore.

If your concern goes beyond the liver and you want to browse other related options, our digestive health tests collection is a good place to start.

How do I interpret my result?

You’ll find an interpretation sheet included within the test pack. You’ll be able to compare your test strip colours with the colour chart on this sheet.

My result was abnormal. What should I do?

An abnormal result is a sign to follow up, not a final answer on its own.

If bilirubin or urobilinogen come back elevated, it is sensible to speak to a medical professional and consider a fuller liver work-up.

One of the main strengths of this test is that it gives you that prompt early, in around a minute, rather than leaving you to guess.

If you want to look at related markers from the same kind of home-testing format, the Kidney Health Rapid Home Test can help you check protein, creatinine and specific gravity as well.

Can I use this as part of a wider health routine?

Yes. This test works well as a quick check-in when you want to keep tabs on liver function at home, especially if you know you have risk factors or you just want a clearer picture without delay.

If you want to build out that routine further, Rezure also offers the Liver and Kidney Vitality Bundle and a wider digestive health tests collection.

How to use this test

1
Collect your sample

Using a clean and dry container big enough to immerse the test strip, collect your urine sample. For best results, do this right after you wake up.

If you don’t have time to do the test straightaway, you may store your sample in the fridge. Bring it back to room temperature before testing, though.

2
Dip the test strip

Dip the strip into the urine sample for 2 seconds exactly, ensuring all the test pads are fully immersed.

Pull the side of the strip without pads along the brim of the sample container, removing any excess urine. Do not allow any test pads to touch the brim of the container.

3
Remove excess urine

Turn the strip on its side and tap it once on a piece of absorbent material (e.g. paper towel). Ensure there is no excess urine, as this may invalidate your result.

4
Compare your result

Wait exactly 60 seconds. Then, compare your test strip with the colour chart provided. Keep the strip horizontal to prevent an inaccurate result.

If your result corresponds with the elevated reading on the colour chart, you should consult a medical professional. This doesn’t necessarily mean you have liver disease, but it’s an indicator of potential liver issues.
