About this test

Brand we're currently stocking: Rezure

With just a small finger-prick blood sample, our Vitamin D Rapid Home Test Kit checks if your vitamin D levels are sufficient, insufficient, or deficient in minutes using a clear colour card comparison.

Vitamin D is essential for absorbing calcium and phosphorus, supporting healthy bones, teeth, and a strong immune system.

Low levels are common, especially in the UK and Europe, where limited sunlight reduces vitamin D production. People with darker skin are also more likely to have lower vitamin D due to higher melanin, which reduces UV absorption.

A lack of vitamin D can lead to fatigue, muscle weakness, low mood, and an increased risk of conditions like osteoporosis, heart disease, and depression. Regularly monitoring your vitamin D helps you take control of your health, especially during gloomy months or if you have risk factors for deficiency.

This highly sensitive test, easy-to-use home test provides reliable results in minutes, empowering you to seek advice and make informed decisions about supplements, diet, and lifestyle to maintain optimal vitamin D levels.

How to use this test

1
Prepare for the test

Bring the pouch with the test cassette inside to room temperature. Do not open it until you’ve washed your hands with soap and rinsed thoroughly with warm water.

Now, proceed to open the pouch, removing the cassette.

2
Prepare the lancet

Remove the clear plastic cap from the lancet. The lancet is single-use, so be careful not to fire it early.

For best results, you should use your middle finger for the sample. Clean your fingertip using the alcohol pad, then allow it to air dry.

3
Collect the blood sample

From the side where the cap was, firmly press the lancet against your fingertip to draw blood. Massage the finger, keeping your hand down.

Without squeezing the bulb, gently put the capillary dropper in contact with the edge of the blood drop. The blood should be drawn into the bulb automatically. Fill it up to the black line, avoiding air bubbles.

4
Transfer the blood sample

Squeezing the dropper bulb, transfer the blood you’ve collected into the well marked ‘S’ on the cassette.

Wait for the blood sample to be completely dispensed into the cassette.

5
Apply the solution & wait

After the blood sample is completely transferred, unscrew the cap of the buffer solution bottle. Add 2 drops of the solution into the ‘S’ well on the cassette.

Wait for the coloured lines to appear. Do not read results until 10 minutes have passed.

After waiting 10 minutes, pick up the test cassette and the vitamin D colour card provided. Compare the intensity of the ‘T’ line on the cassette with the colour card.

6
Read & interpret the results

If the ‘T’ line is equal to or darker than the 10ng/mL line on the colour card, you’re likely vitamin D deficient.

If the ‘T’ line is darker than the 30ng/mL line on the colour card but lighter than 10ng/mL, your vitamin D levels are insufficient (but not deficient).

If the ‘T’ line is darker than the 100ng/mL line on the colour card but lighter than the 30ng/mL line, your vitamin D levels are sufficient.

If only the ‘T’ line appears, or no lines appear at all, your result is invalid.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is this test recommended for?

Regular vitamin D testing is recommended for everyone, especially in the UK and Europe, where limited sunlight makes deficiency common — even in the summer months.

If you often feel tired, weak, or unwell, a vitamin D test can help identify if low levels are the cause. People with darker skin are also at higher risk, as increased melanin reduces the body’s ability to produce vitamin D from sunlight.

Testing is particularly beneficial for older adults, those who spend most of their time indoors, vegans/vegetarians, and individuals managing chronic conditions like osteoporosis or autoimmune diseases.

Do I need to send my sample to a lab?

No, you don’t need to send your sample to a lab.

Our Vitamin D Rapid Home Test Kit is designed for immediate results at home. After collecting a small finger-prick blood sample, the test will display your vitamin D level within minutes using a clear colour card comparison.

This means you’ll get fast, reliable results without the hassle of sending samples away or waiting for lab processing. Everything you need is included in the kit, so you can take control of your health easily and conveniently.

How accurate are the results of this test?

Provided you follow all the instructions carefully, apply a sufficient sample size and avoid contaminating it, this test produces highly accurate results.

Clinical trials have shown this test to be 93.8% accurate.

As with any health test, there’s a remote possibility of obtaining a false result. That’s why any ‘insufficient’ or ‘deficient’ results must be verified by your GP.

How exactly does this test work?

This test measures the level of 25-hydroxy vitamin D in your blood — the main form of vitamin D stored in your body and the most accurate indicator of your vitamin D status.

Once you apply a small finger-prick blood sample to the test, it uses a chromatographic immunoassay process. This means the vitamin D in your blood binds to specific antibodies on the test strip, causing a colour change.

You’ll then compare your result to the provided colour card, which categorises your vitamin D level as sufficient, insufficient, or deficient. The entire process takes around 10 minutes, giving you a quick, reliable snapshot of your vitamin D levels without any need for lab testing.

Why is vitamin D so important for my health?

Vitamin D is essential for maintaining overall health, playing a crucial role in various bodily functions:

Bone Health: Vitamin D promotes calcium absorption in the gut, maintaining adequate serum calcium and phosphate levels necessary for normal bone mineralisation. This process prevents conditions like rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults.

Immune Function: Vitamin D modulates immune responses, reducing inflammation and enhancing the pathogen-fighting effects of monocytes and macrophages. Adequate levels are associated with a decreased risk of infections and may play a role in preventing autoimmune diseases.

Cell Growth Regulation: Vitamin D influences cell proliferation and differentiation, with laboratory studies indicating it can reduce cancer cell growth.

Cardiovascular Health: Vitamin D acts on endothelial and smooth muscle tissues to regulate blood pressure, with deficiencies linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Neuromuscular Function: Vitamin D is involved in neuromuscular function, and its deficiency has been linked to an increased risk of falls in older adults.

Maintaining sufficient vitamin D levels is vital for these physiological processes and overall well-being.

Is this test painful?

Designed for your comfort and ease-of-use, this test only requires a small finger prick to collect a blood sample. Apart from a slight pinch, you won’t feel a thing!

If you’re wary of blood or needles, be aware that you’ll need to be comfortable using a lancet on yourself.

Will taking vitamin D supplements distort my result?

Even if you’re currently taking vitamin D supplements, this test should work fine. If you take the supplements shortly before doing the test, this may artificially distort your results.

Consult with your doctor before taking this test if you’ve been prescribed vitamin D supplements.

Can I have too much vitamin D?

Yes, you can have too much vitamin D, though it’s rare. This condition, called hypervitaminosis D, usually occurs from taking excessive supplements rather than from diet or sun exposure.

Most people don’t need to worry about getting too much vitamin D through everyday habits. However, if you’re taking supplements, it’s important to stick to recommended doses and consult your doctor before making changes.

My result indicates insufficient vitamin D. What does this mean?

If your results suggest your vitamin D levels are insufficient, this means the level of vitamin D in your blood is between 10ng/mL and 30ng/mL. You’re likely not getting enough vitamin D for optimal health and wellbeing.

While your levels aren’t critical, it’s still important to consult a medical professional. With further medical testing and advice, you’ll stand a better chance of avoiding vitamin D deficiency.

The test says I’m vitamin D deficient, what should I do now?

This implies your vitamin D levels are under 10ng/mL — just a third of the recommended 30ng/mL. In this instance, you need to consult your GP immediately to confirm your result and, if necessary, receive appropriate treatment.

Don’t panic: catching vitamin D deficiency early is essential for avoiding negative health outcomes in the long term. You’re now on the road to restoring your overall well-being.

My levels are sufficient, but I’m still unwell. What should I do?

In this case, the test indicates that the vitamin D concentration in your blood is above or equal to 30ng/mL. This would be considered within the normal range. If you’re still feeling unwell, this could be unrelated to vitamin D intake. Seek medical advice straightaway to rule out other causes, and to verify your vitamin D levels professionally.
