Drug Testing FAQs
What do the lines on a multi-drug test mean?
On most multi-drug tests with C and T markings, a C line plus a T line means negative for that drug. A C line alone means a preliminary positive; no C line means invalid. Follow your kit’s diagram and reading time.
Check each drug panel separately
C marks the control line; T marks the test line. Find the drug abbreviation beside each strip, then compare that strip with the diagram supplied with your kit.
A negative result means the test did not detect that substance at or above its cut-off. It does not prove that the sample contains no drugs or that every substance was checked.
Does a faint line mean a positive result?
On tests that use this C/T pattern, a faint coloured T line counts as negative if the C line appears and you read it within the stated window.
Line darkness does not measure the amount of drug present. Set a timer and follow the kit’s reading time. Ignore changes that appear after the stated deadline.
What does an invalid home drug test mean?
If the control line fails to appear, do not interpret that strip, even if you see a T line. Read the instructions again and repeat with a new test.
A preliminary positive needs laboratory confirmation before you make health, employment or legal decisions. Ask a healthcare professional for help if you cannot interpret the result.
