About this test

Brand we're currently stocking: PRIMA

Celiac disease and gluten sensitivity can cause significant discomfort and health issues.

This test detects antibodies in your blood that are associated with gluten intolerance and celiac disease, providing you with valuable insights.

Designed for anyone experiencing symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, weight loss, or irritability, this test can also benefit those with nutrient deficiencies like iron or vitamin B.

Using a small blood sample, the test identifies IgA and IgG antibodies against deamidated gliadin peptides (DGP)

Results in 10 minutes indicate whether your antibody levels are close to the threshold suggestive of gluten sensitivity.

Brand of test may vary.

How this test helps you

1 Test Cassette
1 Diluent vial with dropper
2 Sterile lancets for blood collection
1 pipette for blood sampling
1 cleanser gauze
Clear instruction manual

How to use this test

1
Prepare for the test

Wash your hands thoroughly.

Lay out all the needed materials. Open the aluminum bag and remove the test strip case and pipette.

Discard the desiccant bag.

Open the vial by unscrewing the white cap, making sure it does not fall.

2
Prepare the lancet and draw blood

Carefully perform a 360° rotation of the lancing device’s cap, then extract and discard the released cap.

Press the lancet against your fingertip (preferably the ring finger).

The lancet will retract automatically. Massage the fingertip to form a large drop of blood.

3
Collect the blood sample

Use the pipette to collect the blood drop by placing it in contact with the drop.

Continue massaging your finger until the blood reaches the black line on the pipette.

Open the vial and immediately transfer the blood from the pipette into it.

4
Mix the test solution

Press the pipette bulb to ensure all the blood is in the diluent solution.

Screw the cap back on and mix well for at least 10 seconds.

5
Apply the sample and wait

Unscrew the blue cap of the vial and deposit 3 drops into the well on the test strip case.

Wait exactly 10 minutes for the test to develop.

Read the results after exactly 10 minutes. Do not read after 15 minutes, as results may not be accurate.

6
Read and interpret the results

A coloured line under 'C' (control) indicates a negative result.

Two coloured lines under 'T' (test) and 'C' (control) indicate a positive result, suggesting probable celiac disease.

If no lines appear or only a line under 'T' appears, the test is invalid and should be repeated.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is this test recommended for?

This test is ideal for people who experience symptoms after eating gluten, such as abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhoea, or fatigue. It’s particularly useful for those who suspect gluten sensitivity or coeliac disease and want a quick, at-home way to check.

People with nutrient deficiencies, like iron or vitamin B, may also find it helpful, as these deficiencies can be associated with gluten-related issues.

This test provides insight for anyone curious about their gluten tolerance or looking for initial confirmation of a possible intolerance before consulting a healthcare provider for further testing or diagnosis.

Do I need to send my sample to a lab?

No, you do not need to send your sample to a lab. This is a rapid, at-home test designed to provide results within 10 minutes, allowing you to check for gluten intolerance or coeliac indicators quickly and privately.

Once you collect a small blood sample following the instructions, you can complete the test and read your results at home. It’s a convenient solution for those seeking fast answers without the need for lab facilities or waiting days for results.

How accurate are the results of this test?

This test is highly reliable for at-home screening, with accuracy rates comparable to laboratory testing. When used correctly, it can detect antibodies associated with gluten sensitivity and coeliac disease with a sensitivity of 81..25% and an accuracy of 90%.

While accurate, no test is 100% definitive, so a positive result should be followed up with a healthcare provider to confirm the diagnosis and discuss further testing options.

As with any medical test, following the instructions carefully is essential to achieve reliable results.

How does this test detect gluten intolerance and coeliac disease?

The test detects specific antibodies, IgA and IgG, against deamidated gliadin peptides (DGP), which are commonly present in people with gluten intolerance or coeliac disease.

Simply put, when your body reacts negatively to gluten, it may produce these antibodies as an immune response, indicating sensitivity to gluten. By collecting a small blood sample, this test can identify the presence of these antibodies, giving you insights into whether you may have a gluten intolerance.

While this test is a helpful initial step, further testing with a healthcare provider can provide additional confirmation and diagnosis if needed.

Is there a difference between gluten intolerance and coeliac disease?

Yes, gluten intolerance and coeliac disease are different conditions.

Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disorder where consuming gluten causes an immune response that damages the small intestine. It can lead to long-term health issues if untreated. Gluten intolerance, however, is a sensitivity to gluten without the autoimmune reaction; while it can cause discomfort, it doesn’t lead to intestinal damage.

Both conditions share similar symptoms, such as bloating and stomach pain, but coeliac disease requires a strict gluten-free diet. This test screens for antibodies related to coeliac disease, providing useful insights for either condition.

Are there any foods or activities I should avoid before taking the test?

Yes, there are a few things to consider before taking the test.

Avoid consuming large amounts of gluten right before testing, as it may impact the result accuracy, especially if you’ve been on a gluten-free diet. Additionally, if you’ve recently taken medications that may suppress your immune response, such as steroids, consider waiting until these effects lessen.

For the best results, follow a regular diet leading up to the test, as sudden changes in gluten intake might influence antibody levels. Carefully review the test instructions, as they offer specific preparation tips for optimal accuracy.

What should I do if my test result is positive?

If your test result is positive, it indicates that antibodies associated with gluten sensitivity or coeliac disease are present.

It’s recommended to take a second test to confirm the result, and consult a doctor for further evaluation. They may suggest additional testing, like a blood test or biopsy, to confirm a diagnosis of coeliac disease.

Avoid making drastic dietary changes without professional guidance, as a specialist can help ensure you’re on the right path for managing symptoms effectively. A positive result is an important step towards understanding your health, but a medical diagnosis can confirm the best course of action.

If I have symptoms but test negative, could I still have gluten sensitivity?

Yes, it’s possible to have a negative result and still experience gluten sensitivity, especially if you’ve been following a low-gluten or gluten-free diet, as this can reduce antibody levels.

This test specifically detects antibodies associated with coeliac disease, so non-coeliac gluten sensitivity may not always show up. If you have ongoing symptoms, consult a healthcare provider who may suggest other tests or assessments to understand your condition better.

Keep in mind that food sensitivities can be complex, and sometimes symptoms are due to other digestive issues rather than gluten alone.

If I have an autoimmune condition, could it affect my test results?

Possibly, yes, Having an autoimmune condition could influence the test results.

Some autoimmune conditions may cause elevated antibody levels, which can lead to a false-positive result, as the immune system is already more active.

Additionally, people with other autoimmune conditions, like Type 1 diabetes or thyroid disorders, may have an increased likelihood of coeliac disease. If you have an autoimmune condition, discussing your test results with a healthcare provider is advisable, as they can provide additional insights and suggest further tests if necessary to understand your antibody levels accurately.

Can this test be used to monitor recovery after starting a gluten-free diet?

This test can provide some insights into antibody levels, but it may not be the best tool for monitoring recovery.

Once on a gluten-free diet, antibody levels gradually decline, but it can take months for them to normalise. Your doctor can recommend more specific monitoring methods to track progress over time.

Regular follow-up with your health provider is the best way to assess whether your diet is helping and to address any ongoing symptoms. They may also suggest periodic blood tests that are better suited for monitoring antibody changes related to coeliac disease recovery.
