How to use this test

1
Prepare for the test

Wash your hands thoroughly with hot water and soap, then rinse or dry with the antiseptic cleaning gauze provided.

Open the kit, and lay out the test cassette, pipette, vial, lancet, and alcohol cleaning gauze.

2
Prepare the lancet

Without pulling, carefully perform a 360° rotation of the lancing device’s cap, then extract and discard the released cap. Press the lancet against your fingertip (preferably the ring finger). The lancet will retract automatically. Massage your fingertip to form a large drop of blood.

3
Collect the blood sample

Use the pipette to collect the blood drop by placing it in contact with the drop. Continue massaging your finger until the blood reaches the black line on the pipette. Open the vial and immediately transfer the blood from the pipette into it.

4
Mix the test solution

Press the pipette bulb to ensure all the blood is in the diluent solution. Screw the cap back on and mix well for at least 10 seconds.

5
Apply the sample

Unscrew the blue cap of the vial and deposit 2 drops into the well on the test strip case. Wait exactly 5 minutes for the test to develop before reading your results. DO NOT read the result after 6 minutes.

6
Read and interpret the results

A coloured line under 'C' (control) indicates a negative result, and the absence of inflammation or infection.

Coloured lines under both C and T1 indicate a CRP value between 10 and 40 mg/l. You may have a viral infection, the onset of a bacterial infection, or inflammation caused by physical trauma. Consult your GP.Coloured lines under C, T1, and T2 indicate a CRP value between 40 and 80 mg/l. You may have a viral or bacterial infection, or be suffering from physical trauma. Consult your GP urgently.

Coloured lines under C, T1, T2 , and T3 indicate a CRP value over 80 mg/l. Consult your GP, as this indicates severe inflammation or trauma.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is this test recommended for?

This test can support those experiencing symptoms of bacterial or viral infection, including fever, fatigue, or muscular pain. It will help you find out whether your CRP levels are high and if infection is likely present.

Additionally, this test can be beneficial for managing ongoing health conditions. It can be a part of helping you track an infection and making informed choices about medical care.

Do I need to send my sample to a lab?

No, this test is designed for quick, at-home results, so you won’t need to send your sample to a lab.

Once you collect a finger-prick blood sample, the test kit provides results in minutes, letting you check your CRP levels with ease.

How accurate are the results of this test?

The CRP test results are extremely accurate. Provided all the instructions are followed correctly, you can expect a 97% accuracy rate.

However, like any screening tool, it is not 100% definitive. If your results show elevated CRP levels, you should consult a healthcare provider to understand the cause.

Even if your test comes back negative, this does not mean you aren't experiencing a serious illness or infection. If you are still suffering symptoms, please seek immediate medical advice.

How does the test actually work?

This test detects the presence of C-Reactive Protein in the blood sample you provide. It does this using specific antibodies and the gold nanoparticles contained in the test strip.

What is C-Reactive Protein (CRP)?

C-Reactive Protein, often known simply as CRP, is a protein produced by your liver in response to inflammation in your body. Elevated CRP levels would be indicative of your body fighting an infection, internal inflammation, or trauma.

Although CRP can’t tell you where in your body the issue might be, or what’s causing it, testing for it may suggest that your body is fighting an infection.

I waited more than 6 minutes for the test to develop. Can I still read it?

No, you should not read the results of this test if more than 6 minutes has elapsed since you applied your blood sample.

Only read your results after 5 minutes, and do not read them at all after 6 minutes.

If you exceed this, please discard the test and do another one.

The colour bands on my test look different. What does this mean?

As you're reading your results, disregard the colour and intensity of the lines on your test cassette. How the lines appear is not important: only take note of where they appear on the cassette.

Consult the ‘results interpretation’ section of the instruction sheet for further guidance.

My result was negative, but I still feel unwell. What should I do?

A negative result means less than 10mg/l of CRP was found in your blood.

However, this may be the case if you are in the early stages of infection. If you’re still experiencing associated symptoms, please seek medical advice.

Can other factors influence CRP levels?

Besides infection or inflammation, several other factors can distort CRP levels. Medication including hormone replacement therapy (oestrogen), contraceptives, steroids, and statins can raise CRP levels.

Recent injury or surgery can also raise CRP production in the body. Lifestyle factors, such as smoking, inactivity, and obesity can impact CRP too.

Is the test painful?

The test involves a simple finger-prick to obtain a blood sample, which may cause slight discomfort, similar to a quick pinch.

Most users find it minimally painful, and the process is designed to be as easy and comfortable as possible.
